Peter Van Garderen,
President/Systems Archivist
Peter launched Artefactual Systems Inc. in 2001 to provide technology analysis and implementation services to archival organizations, in particular those that want to develop and implement open-source solutions.
Since that time Peter has worked with a wide range of clients, providing services that range from writing strategy reports, analyzing system requirements, designing technology architectures, developing software, and managing open-source projects.
He is a Doctoral Candidate in Archival Science at the University of Amsterdam and a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of British Columbia's Master of Archival Studies (1997). Peter also holds a Certificate in Software Engineering (2001) from UBC. He is a regular conference speaker on the topics of digital preservation and archives technology.
He has worked at the University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies as an Adjunct Professor (1999-2004) and as the Project Coordinator for International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES Project) (1998-2000). Peter began his career in archives technology over 10 years ago as a product manager for Eloquent Systems (1996-97), developers of library, archives and records management software.
Evelyn McLellan, Systems Archivist
Systems analyst and consultant on Artefactual's digital preservation projects. Evelyn also provides end-user support, user documentation, quality assurance testing and system requirements management for Artefactual's Archivematica project.Evelyn is a graduate of the University of British Columbia's Master of Archival Studies program (1997) and has over 10 years experience as an archivist and records information analyst at a number of organizations including the City of Vancouver Archives and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
She is a co-investigator on the International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES Project) and served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies from 2004-2010. Evelyn has written several articles and delivered a number of presentations and workshops on the topics of digital preservation and open technologies for archives.
MJ Suhonos,
Systems Librarian/Software Engineer
MJ is a graduate of the University of Toronto's Master of Information Studies program (2007) and has over 10 years experience developing high-performance websites. MJ has worked with a number of information organizations and initiatives, including the Public Knowledge Project, Synergies Canada, the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, and Toronto Public Library.
MJ is actively involved in the academic cataloguing, digital library, metadata standards and semantic web communities. He has served on the editorial team of several scholarly journals, including Code4Lib Journal, Open Medicine, and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. MJ has also written a variety of articles and delivered a number of presentations and workshops on the topics of structured metadata management, open access publishing, and open source development practices.
Jessica Bushey, Systems Archivist
Jessica is a graduate of the University of British Columbia's Master of Archival Studies program (2005). She has over 5 years experience working as a digital image archivist including the implementation a digital imaging system and program at the UBC Museum of Anthropology. Jessica provides end-user support, user documentation, quality assurance testing and system requirements management for Artefactual's ICA-AtoM, Digital Collection Builder, and Qubit projects.Since 2009 she has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Library, Archival and Information Studies - teaching graduate courses on technology and archives, management of non-textual and audiovisual archives, and archives and the web. Jessica has published several articles and delivered presentations and workshops on managing and preserving digital images.
David Juhasz, Software Engineer
David has over 10 years experience developing and supporting web-based applications for a variety of international clients.During this time he has established expertise related to open-source search engine libraries, internationalization requirements as well as system administration and performance optimization for web applications.
Austin Trask, Systems Engineer
Austin is a certified Linux/Unix system administrator and has over five years experience deploying server and network hardware including VPN, VOIP, and sophisticated virtualization environments for high-performance financial transaction systems. Austin is a co-founder of the Vancouver Hack Space Society and an active contributor to the Ubuntu community.
Jesús García Crespo, Software Engineer
Jesús has over five years experience developing and supporting web-based applications, including the deployment of ICA-AtoM at the Ducal House of Medinaceli Foundation.Jesús has significant expertise in Javascript rich web applications, server administration, and legacy data migration. He has also published several articles on Linux networking, completed a Google Summer of Code assignment for the Open Source Security Information Management (OSSIM) project, and coordinated the creation of free public wireless networks in his hometown of Sevilla, Spain.
