Ross is a developer on the Archivematica project. His varied background includes a BSc in Software Engineering and an MA in Digital Culture and Technology. Until recently Ross was a Digital Preservation Analyst at Archives New Zealand, and before that a Digital Preservation Researcher at The National Archives, UK. His interests are format identification, migration, creation of tools for the characterization of file formats, and digital preservation challenges in general. As a coder he began his professional life developing VoIP solutions in C++. After that he turned to Python, Golang and PHP, writing tools and scripts for JPEG2000 validation and an open source tool in PHP to output standalone DROID signature files for development and testing. You will find much of his non-Artefactual work on his GitHub account, and he maintains a well-known digital preservation blog on the Open Preservation Foundation site.
