Arkivum, a leading provider of long-term assured digital archiving solutions, and Artefactual, providers of open-source and open-standard digital preservation software, today officially announce their strategic collaboration. The collaboration will enable institutions and organisations that have Archivematica deployments to benefit from the 100% guaranteed long-term digital archiving solutions provided by Arkivum. Many thanks to University of York for funding this work.
The integration of Arkivum’s digital archive services with Archivematica is being co-developed by Artefactual and Arkivum, with funding from University of York. The option to store content processed by Archivematica in Arkivum platforms, both on-site and in the cloud, will be integrated into an autumn 2014 public release of Archivematica. As with other enhancements to the Archivematica platform, the integration will be made available as open-source code for further development and enhancements under the AGPL3 license.
“We are excited to be working with Arkivum, a well-established provider of secure, long-term storage tools and services,” said Evelyn McLellan, President of Artefactual Systems. “We believe institutions will see this as a comprehensive solution for developing their digital repositories.”
“As institutions face rising data volumes, the need to preserve valuable data sets for the future increases, ” Jim Cook, CEO of Arkivum explained. “Working with Artefactual to integrate our two technology solutions will enable us to offer an end-to-end solution for digital preservation and long-term archiving.”
