He studied Informatic Systems Engineering at the University of El Salvador, where he developed scientific applications in PHP and provided pre-service training to prospective science teachers. He’s been a GNU/Linux and free software activist since the early 2000’s, when he got a copy of Redhat 6. This led him to work as a system administrator in a consumer protection NGO, allowing him to experience Python’s power to solve problems relating to processing and analysis of research data, infrastructure management and web development. In 2009 he started working remotely as a web developer and got involved in the Ubuntu project helping to maintain packages for the SchoolTool student information system. His interests are worker-owned cooperatives, mentoring young professionals in the IT field and the digital preservation world.
